The following is from Dr Joe Sobel at Accuweather. He is usually right on.

"Assuming there is something to be tracked 4 or 5 days from now we could have a developing tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico, and our old buddy the Canadian model brings a strengthening tropical system onto the Texas Coast by the middle of next week. At this point any scenarios that far out are pure speculation, but as you know, tis the season. "

Stock up on water, food and gasoline. This season is starting off just like last. Tropical Storm Arlene formed on June 8, 2005 from a wave coming off of Africa. So did Alberto. Very unusual to have African generated storms this early.

Check out the Atlantic satellite from yesterday. There are two more waves that have come off the African coast that are working their way across the Atlantic.

Looks like another very active season.

till then

Hello Out There

<img style="FLOAT: left; I've previously noted that scientists expect a weak to moderate La Nina this summer, and that such events in the Pacific Ocean typically mean the Atlantic hurricane season is more active.
One of the researchers today -- and since the conference is "off the record" I am going to withhold names -- presented fairly compelling evidence that a La Nina is particularly bad for the Gulf Coast and Mexico. The scientist broke down storms in the Atlantic basin into three groups:

Cluster A: Storms that form out in the Atlantic and typically curve into the Eastern U.S. or back out into the ocean.

Cluster B: Storms that form between the Canary Islands and Florida, and generally strike Florida or the Gulf Coast.

Cluster C: Storms that form in the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico, and impact the Gulf Coast from Mexico to Florida.

Based on the talk, during La Nina years, two bad things tend to happen for Texas. First of all, according to graphics shown at the conference, the paths of Cluster C storms shift westward, so instead of hitting Florida or even curving back into the Atlantic, they hit Mexico or southern Texas. The Bay of Campeche is incredibly active.
Secondly, the activity in Cluster C blows up during La Nina years.
By way of comparison, for "Cluster A" storms in recent decades, 52 storms formed during El Nino years and 39 during La Nina years. For "Cluster C" storms -- which are much more likely to strike Texas -- the opposite is true. Just 36 storms formed during El Nino years, versus 56 during La Nina.

One final thing: historical trends suggest not only an increased number of storms during La Nina, but that the storms which form tend to be stronger.

All in all, it made for a fascinating presentation. By breaking the historical genesis and paths of Atlantic storms into three "clusters" the researcher identified some very powerful correlations. The bad news? None of the correlations bode well for Texas during the 2006 hurricane season.
Sci Guy

Hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen

till then

This Driver Bleeds Red and Black

<img style="FLOAT: left; Today I got a new boy named Michael. Michael is the the 4th grade. He should be in the 5th but that did not happen. Michael was to meet with me this afternoon, but just before time his teacher came to the family counselor and told her Michael was in the office because he had been disrespectful to her. The family counselor asked for me to wait while she went to the office to see if he could be released to meet with me.

Michael is, again, in the 4th grade. He is also on probation for shoplifting at Oshmans. He also is possibly going to become a ward of the state as his mother is considering giving up her parental rights because she just does not want him anymore. Yesterday he stayed home alone because he was sick. The family counselor said she received a phone call from him saying CPS had just turned the electricity off at his apartment. She went to work on that.

Michael was allowed to come meet with me. Very quiet at first but I had a picture left over from last week of the dolphins in Hawaii. I gave it to him and immediately he warmed up to me. We talked about what he likes to do. He likes to draw. He also likes football. We talked for a while and then played a game of Connect Four. He was very good at it and had a great time. I asked if he would like to meet with me next Friday and he immediately said yes. I asked him to bring me some of his drawings. He is suppose to be a very talented artist. So we have set a time for next Friday afternoon for Michael and me to meet and talk and do whatever to try to help this little boy feel like he is liked and needed. So sad.

Everyone hug your children tonight and tell them how much you love them for there are children who tonight will go home and go to bed and never know what it is like to be loved.

till then

Check It Out

Look who is rising on the charts. Brandon !!!!!

I Can't Believe It

Yes folks, it is a tropical disturbance approaching Belize. Mind you I am not a young rooster, but some decorum is in order here. The men's locker room is an interesting place. I have been horrified by some of the things I have seen. I will not go into details, as I am sure most of you would prefer, but get real, there are towels provided......for God's sake, use them.

Anyway, so far this week I have been to LTF 4 times. We will go tomorrow and Sunday, if we get the house work done. I am up to an hour on the treadmill at a fat burning pace. I think it is working. I notched my belt up an extra notch on my jeans today. Jeff, I am certainly not burning the calories that you are but' I think the slower pace is working. It feels good to work out as much as we are doing. Hopefully it will keep us going for many more years.

It has been a very busy week work wise. When I got to thinking about it, this is the first week I have been in the "office" in a month with the holidays and then a trip we took. Alot to catch up on. Oh well.

Well, the weekend is upon us and we plan some house cleaning and hopefully some relaxing. Certainly a trip to Costco will be in order. Good grazing. Everyone have a good one.

till then

Finally Some Down Time

Well, I know it has been almost a week since I posted, but it has been very busy. Returning from Hawaii on Tuesday, a full day in the office Wednesday then off to Kansas City Thursday. Returned Friday evening, then off to see Brandon at Floores, then to Bastrop on Saturday for Kelli's shower. It has been a busy week.

I finally uploaded all the Hawaii pics to Yahoo. I sent everyone an email re this. Too many pictures to load up to Flickr. I will pic some good ones a upload to Flickr soon. Hope everyone enjoys.

Ok, Jeff we are coming to Lubbock. I booked the Residence tonight. Decided not to do TRA. It is a bust anyway. Nothing to make me believe Houston would be any better than Dallas. Save the company several thousand dollars. It will be fun.

So this should be another very busy week in the office. They were not leaping out of the water liked I had hoped, but it was really cool. These dolphins were swimming out with us. Look at the center of the other picture and you can see the spray coming up from a whales blow hole. They were cool. It was an awesome experience.

The water got really choppy on our way back in. One time the whole front end of the Cat dipped down and drenched everyone on the front bow. We were in the back at the time, thank goodness. Cool boat. Had an open bar the whole trip. Great Mai Tai's. The first picture is obviously fireworks. At the end of our party last night they had a 15 minute fireworks show. It was awesome. We endured the wind all night but had a good time. Food was lacking in quality but the bar was open. You drink when you can for free as the bars are quiet pricey. The first night KP and I went to the lounge where she had 2 martinis and I had 2 glassed of wine. The bill, $50 prior to tip.

The second shot is from the lounge chair I was sitting in yesterday afternoon. It is out on a point here at the hotel. We plan to be back there late this evening to catch sunset. Should yield some great pics.

We are having fun. Tomorrow will be a kick back day lounging by the pools then a trip to the spa for a shower, perhaps a short workout, then dinner and off to the airport at 8:30 for our trek back to reality.

I should have some pics up later tonight or in the morning of our whale watching excursion. Hope we see some.

till then

We Made It

After a 14 hour trip, The Man movie, numerous segments of Everybody Loves Raymond and Out of Practice, we made it to Kona around 10 PM Hawaii time, 2 AM Texas time. By the time we got our bags, took a 30 min. bus ride to the Hilton, got checked in and to our room it was midnight, 4 AM Texas time. Kathy and I both were still in a "travel" mode and could not settle down enough to go to sleep. We unpacked some, watched some TV, had a few more glasses of wine and finally around 1:30 AM, 5:30 AM Texas time we laid down and went to sleep only to awaken around 6. Figured that would happen. Probably be awake after just a few hours of sleep each night. Your body just cannot adjust.

Oh well, it is pretty here. The part of the island we are on, the west side, is very volcanic. I will post all the pictures when I get back but volcanic rock is everywhere. The pics above are the ocean, dah, from our hotel. The waves are huge compared to what I have seen before. The other pic is our tower. There are 3 towers to this complex. Our room overlooks the golf course. We spent alot of time today just walking around and getting to know the layout. We went to a shopping mall down the road and had lunch. After getting my booth set up we went and got a bite to eat to carry us over till tonight. We have a pool side reception with heavy appetizers. Probably real healthy stuff.

Everyone have a great day. Tomorrow is the work day, all day and then a "show" reception tomorrow night. We have to be in our booths but everybody is drinking and eating. Alot of business gets done but we have to remain in our booths till 8:30.

till then

We Are Headed West

Well, the packing has started for our trip across the Pacific. The time of the year when we all pause after the hustle and bustle to enjoy family, good food and drink and remember what this time of year is all about. "He is the reason." Thomas was sooo much fun. As you can see he really got into things in a big way. Take a look at all the pictures in Flicker.

This was somewhat of a different Christmas from years past. Because of the hurricanes of this past year and Amy's teaching position, we were presented with some opportunities to help some that are much less fortunate than we are. I was so proud of Amy in the way she saw the real meaning of Christmas and stepped up and assured that at least one family who had lost all in Katrina and another family who had not had a Christmas in several years would have a Merry Christmas this year.

It is well put in The PDL Devotional this morning:

"Whenever we give, we are partaking in the nature of God. It is not naturally human to give; it is entirely God-like. If there were any value in the commercialism of Christmas, it would be this. It gets us thinking about what someone else might like for a change, and it gets us giving. We spend our money on someone else. We enter into someone else’s life; we make someone else important. And since giving is one of the things that lends purpose to our lives, it would be wise to carry over some of what we experienced this holiday season and see how we can incorporate more of this sensitivity into our daily lives—keeping in mind that giving is an attitude and an action based on it. It doesn’t have to be a material gift. It can be the gift of our time or talents—even our thoughts" From John Fischer, Purpose Driven Life

Back to our Christmas, Thanks Michelle and Jeff for inviting us to share Christmas Day with you and Thomas. It was awesome. Thanks for the gifts and the love. We love all of you so much.

As we approach the new year, you can't help but wonder what lies ahead. If it is anything like 05, there will be many new challenges to face. But, we accept the challenge. For we know that with God's help we can overcome whatever is brought our way.

For a different version of The Night Before Christmas check this out
http://queenkat.blogspot.com/ She is from New Orleans and lost everything.

till then

Merry Christmas Everyone

I was sittin' by the fireside
Taking a walk through the snow
Listening to a children's choir
Singing songs about Jesus
The blessed way that he came to us

Why can't it remain
All through the year
Each day the same
That's what I wanna hear
It's truly amazing
That spirit of Christmas

Ray Charles

Till then Merry Christmas Everyone

A Whole New Meaning To Cleaning The House

Here are a couple of photos I found today. I discovered that this flashlight has magical powers. It instills these powers to the one holding the flashlight. I first noticed my new power when a car approached and I raised the light and it immediately stopped. When it was time for this car to move I raised the flashlight and made a motion with it for the car to move forward and it did. Amazing. This light even gives its user the ability to tell a car where to stop. You point the light at the car then to a spot on the pavement and the car moves to that spot. Even more amazing .

Well, I just had to make more use of my new found powers over the hundreds of cars entering our parking lot. I started pointing at cars causing them to move forward to the spot I pointed to on the pavement. I caused hundreds of cars to move just with a wave of my red cone flashlight. I could make cars stop, move, go to a certain spot and do just about anything else I wanted them to. What a rush of power.

So if you want to feel the rush that I felt, go out and get you a red cone flashlight and try it in the street in front of your house. You will wield a power of Herculean proportion.

Till then

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Here is something I just ran across about "A Charlie Brown Christmas"

A HOLIDAY CLASSIC THAT WAS ALMOST NOT TO BE
What remains extraordinary about this project is that when the original rough cut was screened to CBS executives in 1965, they deemed this show a Disaster! They said it was awkward, depressing and completely inappropriate for a Christmas special.Devastated, the creative team exited that meeting thinking that their instincts had utterly failed them. All that would change on December 9, 1965. when the show aired, America was SPELLBOUND and no one (including the suits who possessed not a SPECK of insight) could have imagined that this masterpiece would become an icon that announced the arrival of the Holiday season with a legacy spanning 40 years!Vince Guaraldi's soundtrack is critical to this enigmatic and one-of-a-kind success story. It is the family of the girl in one of the other 3rd grade classes that would not have any Christmas presents if not for the teachers and Family Life Specialist at Ridgeview. We should all count our blessings that we have what we have.

Tonight was the first night of our Drive Thru Nativity at Church. We had over 2500 people drive through. Not the turn out we had last year. In 2 days there were over 10,000 people drive through. We fear the long waits last year is keeping many people away this year. Well, tomorrows weather calls for a 30% chance of rain for tomorrow night. That will be bad. Hopefully the weather will hold for us.

Till then

Another Great Weekend First Half

Well another great visit to Round Rock. The T man is something else. Although he was not at his best, a little stomach thing, it was fun to see him. How far he has come in just a few weeks since Thanksgiving. He is all over the place now. No longer the little baby in arms. However, since Nana and I stayed back with him this morning it was really nice having him just lay in our arms and watch Blues Clues. He got a second wind and we were off to the races though. We had a great time and are looking forward to Christmas Day. How fun will that be.

Congrats to Jeff on a personal best today in the Frosty 5K. Great job. Just maybe I will be inspired to start some running. We'll see.

A side note to the "Griswald's". You have a great start. Now I expect much more next year. Let's see how much stuff we can get in the front yard. As predicted The AirForce Band of the West Christmas In Blue program began with the herald trumpets featured on the Star Spangled Banner and ended with the herald trumpets and Oh Come All Ye Faithful. Really put me in the Christmas spirit.

Only distraction was a young lady behind us who periodically began speaking in Latin and going into some dialogue about how the Lord Jesus Christ says repent of your sins. Happened several times. Not sure what was up. I told Mom, maybe we should not judge too quick as it might have been God inspired. Never know. It was strange. Seemed everytime it got quiet she would tune up. The two ladies she was with refused to take her out.

I sat listening to many of the standard Christmas songs, Silent Night, Away in a Manger, Joy To The World. The MC, Nancy Gonzalez from KSAT, openly said that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The singers sang about the baby Jesus and we were wished a Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays. I thought this was not politically correct anymore. This was a group representing the Federal Government. Paid by tax dollars. Wow, how refreshing to know that Christ still is considered by our men and women in Blue to be the center of Christmas. So what gives with all the judges that say you cannot display the Ten Commandments and a manger scene is not appropriate in front of a county courthouse. Let the people who put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms to display the Ten Commandments and have a manger scene in front of the county courthouse decide the laws of the land. We would be much better off.

Till then
Merry Christmas not Happy Holidays

It's Finally Open

Well, today was the first day for Lifetime Fitness in SA. We all went this afternoon for a workout. It is awesome. What a great facility. I love the TV's. KP and I went and bought FM radios so we can listen. It made the time pass by so quickly. When I was on the treadmill, watching Tiger hit the little white ball on the TV, the time flew by. Before I knew it I had done my 3 miles. Then went to the free weights and then some other weights. It felt great to work out again. It has been over a month since we have been in the gym.

Tomorrow will find us at church in the AM, then lunch at Luby's or Jason's, then off to Trinity to what has become a Christmas tradition for us, "Christmas In Blue" presented by the United States Air Force Band Of The West .http://www.lackland.af.mil/bow/. Promises to be a great show, beginning with the Band of The West herald trumpets playing the Star Spangled Banner and then later in the show returning for O Come All Ye Faithful. Awesome.

Well, KP and I will be making a quick trip to St Louis next week. I have a meeting on Wednesday afternoon, then we will enjoy a great steak dinner at The Range Steak House at Harrah's, then make a donation to, as KP put it, the Missouri educational fund.

I have it on good authority that Santa is getting his sled checked out and getting all the presents packed for his world tour on Christmas Eve. I must admit it is quiet pretty. It took about an hour for everything to turn white. Now the roads a coated and all the cars in the parking lot have a good coating of white stuff on them. I am in for the night as I had to do my monthly report. Had a delivery service bring me some Famous Dave's BBQ chicken for dinner. Oh well, I have had my snow for the holiday season.

I was dressed for the weather today. I had on a t shirt, a shirt, a sweater and my scarf and down jacket and my Dr H cap. I was quiet warm.

Well, I think I will sit back now and watch the lighting of the Rockerfeller Center Christmas Tree. Hey pretty cool looking out at snow and watching the show. Only, to assure Matt that we still love him and that he is doing a good job. What a great boss I am. Could I not have done that by phone. Oh well, tomorrow at 6 AM off I go. Keep me in your warm thoughts and prayers.

Thanksgiving Weekend

What a great weekend. Kathy, Amy and I went to Round Rock to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with Michelle, Jeff and the T Man. What a great time we had. Thank you Michelle and Jeff for inviting us. Thomas was soooooo much fun. Thanksgiving lunch was fantastic, thanks to Michelle and Jeff. They did it all, with a little help from Rudy's. Michelle's pies were awesome. It was good to eat "bad" for a couple of days.

We started off with the Austin Turkey Trot, followed by a day of shopping for the girls and football for the guy's, a bike ride for me and Jeff, a couple of long walks and finally the Chuy's Children's Christmas Parade. So much fun. I will post more on the individual events of the holiday, but thanks to Michelle and Jeff for a wonderful time. We had so much fun. Family is what it is all about and we are certainly blessed with a wonderful family.

They Said It Could Happen

A STRONG AND LARGE NON-TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE CENTRALATLANTIC CENTERED ABOUT 900 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF THE AZORESISLANDS IS MOVING LITTLE. It is very motivating. For those of us who spend a small amount of time "working out" it makes you think about how thankful we should be that most of us have two working legs. I think I will pick up the pace as soon as Lifetime opens. If this guy can run with one leg, I should certainly be able to do more.

In other news, we had a great weekend. Saturday was game day and what a game it was. As I previously stated, never ever leave a Tech football game early. Yesterday was Church day and then shop, shop, shop the afternoon away.

Today finds me on "vacation". Had a little office work to do, but should be finished soon. Taking Amers to apply for her passport this afternoon. We will be batching it tonight as Mom has a dinner meeting. Sounds like a pizza night, the healthy kind.

Well, looking forward to Wednesday when we trek to Austin for a fun time. Lots going on.

Till then

Ice Man Said "Never leave your wingman"

Never ever leave a Tech football game.
